Gebal were proud to be chosed by John Buck International to provide 4 new play areas on the Abu Dhabi Corniche for the Urban Planning Council. These areas were to be located in and around the new public beach on the Abu Dhabi Corniche.
As a core element, we designed the areas using natural wooden play equipment manufactured by Lappset Group, our Finnish manufacturing partners. The beachfront areas were evidently highly corrosive, and the wooden equipment offered greater longevity and safety in the medium to long term than alternative materials. Furthermore, without any guarantee that the areas would be shaded at a later date, the use of wooden equipment meant that the children could use the equipment safely in direct sunlight without the risk of being exposed to large areas of hot metal.
For one of the areas, we added a rope pyramid climbing net from our Canadian partners, M/S Dynamo Industries. Again, the choice of this element was based heavily on its anti-corrosion resistance, with the anodized aluminium connectors and marine grade rope offering superb longevity and maximum usability in direct sunlight.
All areas were completed with the provision of EN1177 certified rubber impact protection slabs manufactured by Kraiburg-Relastec, our German manufacturing partners to ensure the safety of the areas now and for years to come.
